My Videos
As well as shooting stills throughout the years, I’ve always enjoyed videography and exploring the other styles of visual story telling.
A lot happen this year and I wanted to share some moments that I was able to capture.
Who Are Who We Are is a film made about how our environment shapes who we are today. In light of this when making the video, I didn’t know what direction I wanted to go in nor even what I wanted to say. Like most of my videos I let myself get inspiration from watching the footage I have while having a light skeleton that builds a story arc. I write the script in real time and do voices overs as I go. In this way, I let the story and footage that makes it, shape the video organically. When I went into this project I knew I wanted to incorporate old videos, both that I had personally taken and ones that were taken of me when I was younger. I wanted to create a narrative and so I thought about how the experiences in my life have led me to who I am today and being a photographer. I had to think about what challenges I faced and the type of individual I was when I was younger, some of which I had to ask my mom. I then also wanted to juxtaposed what I had done in the past to the present. This is why I show videos from the past in a linear fashion then as we get towards the end, we begin to see clips from more recent times. I wanted to recreate some of the shots that I thought were possible and that this could add to the feeling of development and growth. It would also show how I still maintain a similar physical environment despite all else that has changed around me. Over the weekend I went out in Washington Square Park, I saw two men attempting to do what I had watched so many years ago in Union Square, jump over multiple people. I couldn’t believe I had just began making my video and I had the opportunity to capture this moment again from over ten years ago. I have made a video about my passion for photography before, but I wanted this to be more about me and why I am who I am today.
